Happy Mother's Day!!

Mother's Day is
Sunday May 14th

Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but the clearest modern precedent for Mother's Day is the early Christian festival known as "Mothering Sunday." Mother's Day started as an anti-war movement. Anna Jarvis is most often credited with founding Mother's Day in the United States. Designated as the second Sunday in May by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914, aspects of that holiday have since spread overseas, sometimes mingling with local traditions.

May is Bike Month!! Get Pedalling!

National Bike Month

May is National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling - and encourage more folks to giving biking a try. Whether you bike to work or school; ride to save money or time; pump those pedals to preserve your health or the environment; or simply to explore your community, National Bike Month is an opportunity to celebrate the unique power of the bicycle and the many reasons we ride. Visit THIS LINK for bike law and legal resources, keeping you and those you share the road with safer.

To adjust to the reduction in funding from the state of Illinois, beginning February 5, 2016, Bond County Senior Center will not always provide meals on Fridays; Meals on Wheels could be limited to four days per week.

The Center will remain open for other services.

The Executive Director of the Center, is urging local residents to contact legislators, the governor and other leaders about the service cuts that have occurred due to the lack of a state budget.
